Get to Know the Faces Behind Our Green Initiatives

At Sime Motors, we are committed to bringing the best products and solutions to enable Asia Pacific to move and develop. This includes our people who not only strive for excellence but also rolling up their sleeves to contribute to the community. As we celebrate Earth Day on 22 April, we spotlight some of these individuals across the region who champion environment and community-focused initiatives.

Caring For the Community and Planet

From tree planting to food donation initiatives, our teams are contributing to shape a greener world. Our recent CSR activities have touched many hearts and homes.

i. Tree Planting

In Singapore, Performance Motors Limited (PML) rolls out the PML Green Initiative which encourages BMW customers to opt out car washes during servicing that reduces water consumption significantly. For every 30 car washes saved, a tree is planted through NParks’ Plant-a-Tree programme. To date, PML has planted 100 trees with another 100 on track for this year.

ii. Food Farming

Kia Taiwan organised a food farming activity at Longtan Yoga Farm, working alongside students with intellectual disabilities from a local care institution. Together, they engaged in activities such as planting and harvesting vegetables and fostering food conservation. As part of the initiative, Kia Taiwan donated 50kg of organic rice to the institute, reinforcing a culture of generosity and environmental awareness.

iii. School Environmental Education

In Malaysia, the “Join the Porsche Ride” campaign, a global programme, makes its stop in Kulim, Kedah. Named Sahabat Lestari, this initiative focuses on educating school children to create environmental awareness. Supported by Porsche Malaysia, Inokom Corporation and a local NGO, Free Tree Society, the programme inspired young minds to establish responsible behaviour and integrating them into everyday school life.

Sustainability at the Core of Our Business

Sustainability is not merely a goal across our businesses—it is a guiding principle. Our initiatives are shaping the foundation for responsible and forward-thinking operations.

i. Reducing Carbon Emissions

As part of the efforts to reduce carbon emissions, Sime Motors New Zealand practices a company car policy to prioritise low emission options for every vehicle replacement. Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles are being gradually swapped out in favour to hybrid alternatives and they’re never turning back. Instead, they’re encouraging for all company drivers to consider low emission options when renewing vehicles.

ii. Greywater Recycling

Performance Motors Thailand support sustainability through a greywater recycling initiative at its Ratchapruek, Ayutthaya and Don Mueang facilities. The project is set to recycle over 60% of the water used on-site, a major step towards achieving Sime Group’s 2030 sustainability goals.

Once fully operational, the system will channel treated greywater into non-potable applications such as toilet flushing and car wash operations. This significantly reduces the need for fresh water and demonstrates a practical approach to resource conservation. Beyond water savings, the initiative contributes to the company’s wider efforts to lower carbon emissions and improve operational efficiency.
