A significant safety milestone has been attained within Modular Operations, comprising of Auto Engineering (SDAE), Auto Module (SDAM), Auto Interior (SDAIN) and Lead Engineering (LEAD), with the accumulation of 3 million man-hours without a Lost Time Incident (LTI), recorded continuously from April 2018 through April 2025.
This milestone, while quantifiable, represents far more than a numerical achievement. It represents the cumulative result of thousands of hours marked not by mere attendance, but by diligence, situational awareness and an unyielding culture of care and responsibility. From the factory floor to supervisory and support teams, every individual involved in modular production and assembly has played a critical role in embedding a safety-first mindset. Whether operating heavy machinery, navigating complex logistics or carrying out routine tasks, every action has been governed by discipline, vigilance and adherence to established safety protocols.
To commemorate this achievement, a formal celebration was held with the presence of distinguished leaders and safety professionals:
i. Mr. Lee Smith, Group Chief Safety Officer
ii. Mr. Robert Ozols, General Manager Safety & Sustainability Asia Region
iii. Mr. Keith Chieng Chez Chzan, Safety Specialist, Sime Group
iv. Mr. Ir. Ts. Mohd Safarin Bin Sabli, Deputy Director, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Kedah
Their presence affirmed not only the magnitude of the achievement but also reinforced that workplace safety is a shared responsibility, requiring continuous collaboration between corporate leadership, operational teams and regulatory authorities to ensure environments remain free from harm and conducive to long-term sustainability.
Sustaining a zero-LTI record over a seven-year operational cycle, particularly within modular environments characterised by shifting production timelines, complex assembly sequences and constant interdepartmental coordination, demands a deep-seated discipline to avoid the gradual erosion of standards, recognising that complacency is often the greatest threat to workplace safety and that the absence of incidents must never be misconstrued as the absence of risk, but rather understood as the product of rigorous processes and the refusal to let routine blind the organisation to potential exposure points that could disrupt not only operations, but lives.
This achievement is a platform for continuous growth, a reaffirmation that safety and productivity are not opposing objectives but interdependent outcomes that, when pursued in harmony, result in an organisation that is resilient, efficient and principled in its duty of care.
As modular operations move forward, this foundation will support future advancements, with renewed focus on innovation, capability building and integration of global best practices to ensure that every individual returns home safe, every day, as a matter of standard, not exception.
