With a weekend filled with racing action on and off the track, the Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia joins the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia as the support race at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit, offering a motorsport extravaganza unlike any other.

Sepang. Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance, is set to light up the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit with the finale of the inaugural Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia 2024 on 10 August 2024. The event will be held as the support race to the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2024, treating fans to non-stop racing action.

The Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia offers an opportunity for young dreamers to experience motorsport from an early age, with participants as young as 10 years old competing in the Esports program. The three categories in the program include the Junior Dreamers (10 – 14 years old), Young Dreamers (15 – 17 years old) and Driven Dreamers (18 years old and above).

“Whether in the digital realm or on the racetrack, racing is inherently in our DNA. In Malaysia, the rise of sim racing has offered an incredible opportunity for young talents to showcase their competitive spirits and compete in the exciting world of digital motorsport. Simulation racing has also increasingly played an important role in shaping the future of motorsports, be it in race preparations for racers or with the development of both our racing and road vehicles,” shared Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer, Sime Darby Auto Performance.

The journey towards the finale
The Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia 2024 kicked off with two qualifying rounds leading up to the final race. In the first round of qualifiers, participants competed at the virtual Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, - both online and at Porsche Centre Ara Damansara - to record the fastest lap time and secure their spot in the Top 30 to advance to the next stage.

The top 30 racers from each category were then invited to Porsche Centre Ara Damansara for the second round of qualifiers. Here, they had the unique opportunity to receive coaching from an experienced sim racing professional, preparing participants for the final qualifying round.

Participants then put their skills to the test during free practice sessions before moving on to the official qualifiers. Competing on the legendary Suzuka Circuit in Japan, the top 10 racers with the best lap times in each category earned their spots in the final race.

High-stakes finals
Held in parallel with the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2024, the Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia finale will see the Top 10 finalists from all three categories vying for the top spot on the virtual Sepang International Circuit. Participants will be given a 15-minute free practice session to warm up, followed by a 20-minute qualifying session which will determine their grid positioning for the race, where they will compete for titles in the respective categories.
