True progress in mobility goes beyond putting more EVs on the road—it’s about building a resilient ecosystem that can withstand challenges.
Recognising this, BYD Academy, the learning and development arm of BYD Sime Motors, partnered with the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) to equip and prepare its first responders for any incidents involving electric vehicles.
BYD Academy conducted an Electric Vehicle Operation, Safety & Fire Investigation training programme at the Fire and Rescue Academy Malaysia, Central Region in Kuala Kubu Bharu.
The intensive five-day course was designed together with BYD Malaysia to equip fire officers, including fire investigation, operations and safety personnel, with the critical knowledge and hands-on skills required to respond confidently to EV-related incidents.
The training covered a comprehensive range of topics, including EV technology and components, safety protocols and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), incident identification and handling, battery emergency management and fire suppression and investigation.
The programme was initiated at BYD Academy in Ara Damansara, officiated by YAS Dato' Ir. Ts. Ahmad Izram Bin Osman, Deputy Chief Director (Operations) of BOMBA Malaysia.
This initiative was made possible by Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors Southeast Asia, whose leadership has been instrumental in fostering strategic partnerships that strengthen Malaysia’s EV ecosystem. Adeline Lew Aun Aun, Managing Director of BYD Sime Motors, was present as the representative at the ceremony.
“Safety is the cornerstone of sustainable mobility,” said Jeffrey Gan. “We are proud to support this collaboration between BYD Sime Motors and BOMBA Malaysia, ensuring our emergency responders are well-equipped to handle any given situations from EVs. This initiative reflects our commitment to building a safer, smarter future for all Malaysians.”
By embedding this crucial knowledge into the expertise of BOMBA Malaysia, BYD Sime Motors is helping to build a resilient safety net that protects firefighters, customers and the wider community as the nation accelerates into an electric future.
