KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 10 December 2024 – Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (Auto ConneXion), the sole distributor for Ford in Malaysia, has taken another significant step towards enhancing the well-being of the Orang Asli community in Kampung Sungai Urat, Gerik, Perak.
The initiative, conducted in collaboration with MyFundAction on 23 November 2024, involved providing sustainable access to clean and safe water, health screening services and enhancing health and hygiene awareness. These efforts are set to benefit over 300 members of the community.
This latest project reflects Auto ConneXion-Ford’s ongoing commitment to community welfare and sustainability. It also aligns closely with the pillars of Ford Philanthropy, the charitable arm of Ford Motor Company.
Ford Philanthropy contributed USD10,000 for the project, enabling the installation of water tanks and essential infrastructure, such as piping systems, to establish the community’s first reliable clean water source.
A dedicated team of 30 Auto ConneXion staff volunteers played a pivotal role in bringing this project to life. The volunteers travelled to Kampung Sungai Urat to assist with installing the clean water infrastructure using a boring technique.
The boring technique ensures a sustainable and safe water supply by providing access to deep, clean groundwater sources. Boreholes are economically efficient over time and benefit agriculture and industry by providing a steady water supply. By combining boring techniques with sustainable management practices, it is possible to create a resilient and safe water supply system that supports long-term community and environmental needs.
The Auto ConneXion volunteers also joined MyFundAction in conducting health screenings, ensuring the beneficiaries received essential health evaluations.
To further support the community’s well-being, the team also organised engaging activities for the children within the community to promote the importance of health and hygiene. These interactive sessions aimed to instil lifelong habits that contribute to healthier lifestyles.
